Financial Approach and Principles

We are an ambitious, growing multi academy trust, currently consisting of 13 schools, operating in a highly regulated environment. Our primary financial objective is to ensure the Trust remains a going concern and is financially sustainable. This objective shapes our financial approach, guided by four key perspectives:

Stakeholder Perspective

Our Trustees require clear oversight of financial risks to ensure long-term sustainability. We meet this need through:

  • Robust current and projected financial information
  • Consistent KPI reporting across all schools
  • Adherence to our three core financial principles: resilience, integrity, and agility

By applying this approach, we empower stakeholders to make informed and confident decisions.

Regulatory Perspective

We operate within a stringent legal and regulatory framework. Strong financial governance is essential to ensure ongoing compliance and accountability.

User Perspective

Financial information must be clear, accurate, and timely to support evidence-based decision-making using the most current data available.

People Perspective

Our finance team must have the skills, capacity, and strategic insight to support the Trust’s objectives. Defined competencies and ongoing development underpin this commitment.

Core Principles

Our medium-term budgeting is anchored in three principles: financial resilience, integrity, and agility.

Resilience

The ability to withstand short-term risks while maintaining long-term financial stability. We benchmark against similar Trusts and aim for strong financial indicators (e.g., cash reserves, GAG reserves). Our financial strategy includes working towards operating efficiently and effectively, compared to national benchmark data.

Integrity

Transparency in reporting and accuracy in financial processes. This is reinforced through clear responsibilities, control principles, fair resource allocation, adherence to our scheme of delegation, and independent audit reviews.

Agility

The ability to respond swiftly to change. Recent examples include:

  • Efficiently integrating new academies
  • Managing outsourced services (IT, facilities, capital projects, catering)
  • Streamlining team structures for efficiency while maintaining on-the-ground presence
  • Effective budget adjustments to mitigate reduced income from extended services and lettings during closures

By embedding these principles, we ensure financial sustainability, compliance, and the agility to adapt to an evolving educational and economic landscape.
